I'm excited to share my first open-source project: NXOSC Reborn, a free OSC bridge for the Waves NX head tracker. It runs on macOS and Windows, and it should also work on Linux. The Waves NX is still one of the best wireless head trackers on the market, but without proper software support it has been collecting dust in many studios. NXOSC Reborn builds on the original NXOSC by Katsuhiro Chiba and removes its biggest limitations. It is no longer Mac-only, and you can fully configure the OSC messages using the same profile syntax as Supperware's Bridgehead, including the tracking format Nuendo expects. I'm also publishing the reverse-engineered Bluetooth protocol of the Waves NX, so developers can build the tracker directly into their own plugins and apps.
In this video, I show you how to connect the tracker, select and customize OSC profiles, and use the smoothing and send rate options. Then I run a quick demo in Reaper with the Rotator plugin from Audio Brewers. I also show the Mac menu bar mode and how to recenter the tracker with an OSC message, for example from a Stream Deck. NXOSC Reborn is currently in beta, so please let me know in the comments if you find any bugs or have feature requests, or if you've tried it on Linux.
