Why Did Nobody Make This Plugin Sooner? — Audio Brewers Ambisonics EQ

In this video, I'm taking a close look at Audio Brewers' brand-new ambisonics EQ plugin, abEQ. What makes this plugin unique is that it lets you EQ the signal at each individual dimensional pole of the ambisonics field — left, right, front, back, top, and bottom — all independently, while keeping the ambisonics signal intact. I walk you through the full setup in Reaper, from encoding a 9.1.6 signal into seventh-order ambisonics all the way through to applying directional EQ and decoding back. Whether it's brightening up the top, boosting the back, or linking poles together, this plugin opens up a whole new level of control for immersive audio mixing.

As a bonus, I'm also showing off a brand-new feature from APL's Virtuoso binaural renderer: HeadTrek. This free add-on, included with the Virtuoso 2.3 update, uses your webcam to track your head position — no hardware tracker required. It's incredibly quick to set up and perfect for a fast head-tracking check while you're working. HeadTrek is currently Mac only, with a Windows version on the way. If you're doing any work with ambisonics or immersive audio, both of these tools are well worth checking out.
