Neumann RIME Update: Full 3D Head Tracking Changes Everything (+ WalkMix Creator Update)
In this video, I take another look at what I believe is currently the best budget-friendly solution for monitoring immersive and spatial audio during production: the combination of Neumann NDH headphones, the Neumann RIME binaural rendering plugin, and the Supperware Head Tracker. Since my last review, Neumann has addressed my main concern by expanding the RIME plugin's head tracking from horizontal-only to full three-dimensional tracking. I also cover the recent head tracking update for the WalkMix Creator, which now integrates natively with the Supperware Head Tracker for producing content in Sony's 360 Reality Audio format.
After extensive testing, I can honestly say that the quality of spatial positioning with this setup gets you about 95% of the way to a professional 7.1.4 studio experience—at a fraction of the cost. The RIME plugin's binaural rendering, combined with customisable ITD settings for different head sizes, delivers an astonishingly accurate impression of three-dimensional space. Whether you're mixing in a hotel room or a coffee shop, this completely mobile setup removes the barriers of space and budget that have traditionally kept creators away from immersive audio production.
